Dr. Sumi grew up in small town Klang, Malaysia. Being an older sister to a brother almost a decade younger than her sparked her love for caring for people. She graduated medical school in 2004 (Melaka Manipal Medical College, Malaysia) and completed her internship and a 3 year paediatric training at the local General Hospital.

Though her years as an allopathic doctor was gratifying, she began to wonder if there was not more that a doctor could do for her patients to prevent them from coming to the hospital in the first place. Thus began her journey to add more complementary tools to her allopathic tool box. . This journey was further fueled when she was  diagnosed with a flare up of her autoimmune condition that warranted a prescription of long term steroids and high doses of non inflammatory medication. Around the time, she was fortunate to have watched Functional Medicine Pioneer, Mark Hyman MD present a lecture that led to her furthering her knowledge in that field.

Dr.Sumi founded Thrive Health Clinic in Malaysia in 2015 where she started integrating and combining various healing modalities while weaving in compassion and communication. That practice has turned out to be her life work.

Now located in North Carolina USA, Dr.Sumi sees her patients virtually with plans to see patients in-person in the near future.

​She sees patients from all ages with a focus on women and children who have on-going chronic health issues.
